Beschrijving

Amsterdam, Ian Hendriks, 1656, 4to., full parchment spitsel binding with handwritten title on spine, [4]+328 pp., somewhat smudged parchment, a small dark stain on the fore edge, but otherwise in very good condition with a solid construction and intact headbands, woodcut city crest of Amsterdam on the titlepage, with two beautiful woodcut illustrated initials. With a handwritten note on the flyleaf: ‘Virtutis laus (…)’ and an ownership signature: ‘Joan H.P. Ennema, Oct. 1925’ (Ennema wrote a book in 1946 entitled: ‘Kampen, de aloude Hanzestad’) and monogram stamp on the titlepage featuring the letters J and E, most likely also referring to Ennema.
