Beschrijving

Amsterdam, Johannes van Ravesteyn, 1667, 4to., full parchment spitsel binding with handwritten title on spine and yap edges (omgezette rand), [8]+381+[13]+[30]+12 pp., with separate titlepages for the title by Hogerbeets and ‘ 't Hollandtsche versterf-regt’. There are some waterstains and the corner is torn from the first blank page of the endpaper signature in the back, the parchment has some black dots on the front and back (ink dots?), the construction is solid and the printwork clear. With a woodcut printer's mark on the titlepage (Exspectando).

The first edition of this standard work by Hugo de Groot (Grotius 1583-1645) was published in 1631. He wrote this book during his imprisonment at Slot Loevenstein.
