There is an illustration mounted on the front. On the backboard the publisher’s logo is stamped (Vol Hardt En Waeckt). The book contains 24 beautiful prints after watercolours by Edmund Dulac (1882-1953), all protected by tissue guard. This means that this Dutch edition is a smaller version of the British original (50 ill. ). The book consists of four stories by Laurence Housman (1865-1959). His retellings of the Arabian Nights are based on the French Le Mille et une Nuit by Antoine Galland (1646-1715) and the Arab sources of the Alf Laylah wa-Laylah. The French/British illustrator Edmund Dulac was very popular at the beginning of the twentieth century. His name is mostly mentioned in one breath with that of Arthur Rackham, because they both had a very good style for fairy tales. Dulac made his most praised work between 1909 and 1918 for the publishers Hodder and Stoughton.

Hardcover in light brown polished cloth. The front cover and spine are decorated with an intricate stamped flower pattern that surrounds the gilded titles. The top edge is gilded, while the tail and for-edge are untrimmed. The book is in very good condition.
