Beschrijving

Folio, oblong, marbled paper binding, with 27 handcoloured maps, the binding has some damage at the top of the spine and at the bottom front edge. There is a title plate on the front of the binding. There are curious markings and writings blind tooled in the front and back of the cover, most are clearly visible in grazing light. There seems to be some kind of code with letters depicted as squares and triangles combined with dots, there are stars combined with numbers, and some words in two different handwritings that read: ‘Hillegonda’ and ‘Logarim’. These markings could have been transferred into the binding if they were written on paper that laid on top of the book. Some markings seem intentionally placed though, so maybe they were blind tooled in the binding on purpose. It would be fascinating to discover what the meaning behind the crypitic markings is.
