Translated from German by Jozef Colveniers, fourth part from the series Nederduitsche Kunstbibliotheek. Ex libris inside front cover: ‘Dit boek is van Johanna van Wisse’ with an illustration showing a classically dressed woman with a harp. Schildburgers (in original German: Schildbürger) were the citizens of the fictional city of Schilda. They figure in short stories known as Schildbürgerstreiche (‘pranks of the citizens of Schilda’) and are part of the German chapbook tradition.
