Brill, 1872, 53 pages, original paper binding, offprint from Handelingen van de Maatschappij der Nederlandsche Letterkunde te Leiden 1871-1872, Samuel Philippus Lipman (1802-1871) was born in London. He moved with his parents in 1807 to Glückstadt in Holstein. He became a student at Leiden University at the age of 17. He became a succesful (Jewish) lawyer in Amsterdam. He served as the deken of the Orde der advocaten. In 1852 he became catholic. From 1857 to 1862 he was a member of the Hoge Raad in Den Haag. He published a lot. His translation of the Nieuwe testament was completed by H.J.A.M. Schaepman. He wrote books on law, religion and politics.Judaica.
