Amsterdam, Cornelis Lodweijcksz. van der Plasse, 1640, 8vo., parchment cover, 18 foliated pages plus preface and titlepage, the booklet is pasted into a parchment cover which tends to curl open, smudged parchment, some waterstains, some worming (in the top margins, not interfering with the text), some corners are reinforced with paper strips. There is a woodcut vignette on the titlepage depicting an angel, the preface is marked with a lovely woodcut head- and tailpiece. Ownership signature on titlepage, in blue (Haar).
Other copies of this title accompany a book by Jan Taffin, ‘De boetveerdicheydt des levens, vervaet in vier boecken’ (with it's own titlepage). This explains why the signature marks of this title do not start with A, but with Ccc.Taffin's book was first published in 1594. The edition published in 1640 is the 12th edition. Jan Taffin (1529-1602) was preacher at the Dutch royal court of William of Orange. Not in STCN and KB (Dec. 2020).
