Beschrijving
Amsterdam (Amsteldam), J.B. Elwe, 1788, 8vo., later marbled paper hard cover binding, [4]+269+[3] pp., some wear and tear with the paper covering the spine faded and slightly damaged, the endpapers have browned, the bookblock has some stains, but is still of solid construction. There are three beautiful engravings. One is on the titlepage, depicting four cherubs (by N.v.d.Meer). The other two are anonymous and are entitled ‘zededichten’ and ‘bespiegelingen’. There is also a page with music, entitled ‘Romance’. A fold out engraving accompanying the poem ‘Een Christen op zijn landgoed’ is missing.
In the preface the publisher states that this book contains some works by Feith, accompanied with some other works. Elwe did so to present the readers with a decent volume, because experience had taught him that small volumes often get lost. The publication let to an argument between Feith and Elwe, because the poet was displeased with it. It was unclear which works of poetry were his, and he disapproved of the other works presented next to his.
