Comes with a modern edition by Ton van den Dungen and Els Stronks, entitled: ‘De Maassluise Meeweklacht: liederen voor zeelui, wezen en andere kerkgangers uit de zeventiende eeuw’ [1998]. In this edition the work by Frank Metaal takes a central role, but it also discusses Dutch songs from the Golden Age in general. The book offers some biographical information about Frank Metaal, though his date of birth and death remain a mystery. He probably lived between 1640-1700, he was married in 1663 and had two children.
