Portrait of the lawyer Paul Freher (I) at age 53. Half-length, turned to the right and glancing towards the left. He wears a broad standing collar, fur cloak, doublet and chains. A coat of arms at the top right corner.
Etching and engraving on hand laid paper, laid down on support sheet. Sheet size 175 x 108 mm., support size 249 x 376 mm. Engraved by Andreas Kohl and with a Latin caption by Paul Freher (II). Made after 1625 (date occurs on the print), but given the dates for the engraver's life, probably around 1640-1650.
Andreas Kohl (Nuremberg 1624-1657) was a German engraver and draftsperson, who made numerous portraits, but also genre scenes and animal scenes.
In good condition, cropped within platemark, laid down on support. a small wormhole just below the top caption. Some scattered foxing, but the image generally clean and a nice impression.
