Bust-length portrait of Alphonse de Lamartine, looking to the right. Alphonse Marie Louis de Prat de Lamartine (1790-1869) was a French author, poet, and statesman who was instrumental in the foundation of the French Second Republic and the continuation of the tricolore as the flag of France.
Steel engraving on wove paper, sheet size 273 x 179 mm., platemark 227 x 153 mm. Engraved by Joseph Caron after own design and published in: Cormenin, Louis-Marie de Lahaye. Livre des orateurs. Parijs: L.A. Pagnerre, 1842.
Adolphe Alexandre Joseph Caron (1797-1867) was a French printmaker.
In very good condition. Top margin a little browned, a crease from the right margin into the image area, a small tear and two nicks in the left margin.
