Amsterdam, Michiel Colijn, [1634], Folio (three folded leaves in each signature), full parchment binding with blindtooling, ribbed spine and closure ribbons, foliated pages starting with 1 at every new chapter (books 33-37: [24 pp.]+100 ff.+83 ff.+69 ff.+66 ff.+69 ff.+[36 pp.] (=index book 37)+[28 pp.] (=index to all 37 books with a separate titlepage).
Bound with ‘Register ofte bladtwyser op alle de Seven-en-dertigh Boecken der Nederlandtsche Oorloghen. Beschreven door Pieter Bor Christiaensz.’ Amsterdan (Amstelredam), gedruckt voor Broer Jansz, Abraham de Wees en Theunis Jacobsz, 1640.
The binding is in worn with the parchment loose, only remnants of the closure ribbons remain, one headband still present (loose), stained parchment, the exposed boards have bruised corners, the endpapers have separated from the boards exposing that the binder used left over materials to strengthen the construction (left over paper and parchment (macculatuur)). The engraved titlepage is loose. The book block is of solid construction (sewing intact) with mostly clean pages and printwork (in gothic and roman fonts) in two columns (some waterstains and some signs of worming).
There is poem (fold out page in two columns) in memory of the deceased author, who reached the age of 76. With lovely decorative woodcut elements (initials, endpieces) and 13 etchings/engravings inside the collation depicting various locations mentioned in the text.
