Bust-length portrait of Pope Paul III (1468-1549), born Allesandro Farnese, the 224th pope (according to the caption). Around the portrait religious imagery is depicted.
Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 275 x 187 mm. Engraved by Frederik Bouttats (Antwerp, 1621-1676), for Cornelius Hazart's publication 'Triomph der Pausen van Roomen over alle hare Benyders ende Bestryders …' (Antwerp: Michiel Knobbaert, 1678).
In good condition, cropped to the image edge. Minimal paper loss in the top right edge (with very slight loss of image). A small tear in the left edge (with old restoration). Some general creasing and discolouration in the margins.
