Bust-length portrait of Pope Paul II (1417-1471), born Pietro Barbo, the 215th pope (according to the caption). Around the portrait religious imagery is depicted.
Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 291 x 194 mm. Engraved by Frederik Bouttats (Antwerp, 1621-1676), for Cornelius Hazart's publication 'Triomph der Pausen van Roomen over alle hare Benyders ende Bestryders …' (Antwerp: Michiel Knobbaert, 1678).
In good condition, cropped to the platemark on the left and top edges. A small tear and creasing in the top left corner (minimally affecting the image). Pencil scratches in one of the Medusa heads in the lower edge of the image. Some general creasing and discolouration in the margins.
