Bust-length portrait of Pope Leo I (400-461), known as Leo the Great, the 47th pope (according to the caption). Around the portrait religious allegory is depicted.
Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 311 x 198 mm., platemark 289 x 186 mm. Engraved by Frederik Bouttats (Antwerp, 1621-1676), for Cornelius Hazart's publication 'Triomph der Pausen van Roomen over alle hare Benyders ende Bestryders …' (Antwerp: Michiel Knobbaert, 1678).
In good condition. Minimal paper loss in the top right margin (with very slight loss of image). Some general creasing and discolouration in the margins.
