Bust-length portrait of Pope Hormisdas (?-523), the 52nd pope (54th according to the caption). Around the portrait religious allegory is depicted.
Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 311 x 198 mm., platemark 279 x 183 mm. Engraved by Frederik Bouttats (Antwerp, 1621-1676), for Cornelius Hazart's publication 'Triomph der Pausen van Roomen over alle hare Benyders ende Bestryders …' (Antwerp: Michiel Knobbaert, 1678).
In good condition. Light browning and paper loss in the top right margin (no loss of image). Some general creasing and soiling/discolouration in the margins.
