Beschrijving
Leiden, 1786, 4to., half leather bindings with marbled paper, gold tooled spine with titleplates in red and green leather, blue sprinkled edges, complete set: 3 bindings containing 6 volumes, with two volumes in each binding. Binding 1: volume 1 and 2, 24+79+78 pp., binding 2: volume 3 and 4, 67+108 pp., binding 3: 44+89+152 pp.
The books have some foxing and the corners of the bindings show some wear, binding 2 (volume 3 and 4) has a tear (mostly in the margin) in the engraving after p. 104 (number CLXVIII). Other than that, the books are in good condition with the construction intact and solid.
Each titlepage has a woodcut vignet and there are some lovely woodcut endpieces. The eyecatchers of this set are of course the many beautiful engravings by Vinkeles throughout each volume. Each fable is accompanied by an engraved illustration, sometimes more than one. The engravings are numbered in roman numbers 1 to 245.
