Amsterdam, Wed. Barend Visscher, 1720, 8vo., full parchment spitselbinding, with handwritten title on the spine and blind tooled decoration on the front and back of the binding, with sprinkled edges. Two engraved titlepages and an engraved portrait of Cats, the textpages are filled with lovely engravings to illustrate each discussed proverb. This volume contains several works by Cats in one binding: ‘Zinne- en minnebeelden’, ‘Selfstryd’, ‘Toneel der mannelyke agtbaarheidt’ and ‘Galathea of herdersklagt: Klagende maegden’, [20]+218+[52]+112+[14]+55+[13]+193 pp.
The book is in very good condition, the construction is solid and the pages are clean. Some stains on the back of the binding.
