Beschrijving
Amsterdam, 1650, Paulus Aertsz van Ravesteyn, Folio, later modern leather binding with title vignet on the spine, with modern endpapers and modern headbands, [32]+315+[13]+54 ff., the book has been rebound, the construction is solid and the connection between book block and binding is strong. The bookblock has (water)stains, some small tears in the margins and the corners and some sign of worming. The first few pages (including the titlepage) have the most damage with fragile margins. It seems the book had lived a while without a proper binding, causing wear and tear to the pages. No wonder it was rebound.
An ownership signature on the titlepage has been covered with something that has been partly removed. The book is mostly printed in a Gothic font. There are lovely woodcut decorative elements such as initials and endpieces. There is an engraving portraying Calvijn (by Visscher).
In the back there is a supplement with a separate titlepage: ‘Supplicatie van de Noodighe Reformatie der Christelicker Kercke in het Pausdom (…)’, Amsterdam 1650.
