Beschrijving
Amsterdam / Leiden, Wetstein, Sceperus / v.d. Dalen, v.d. Water, 1703, folio, half parchment binding with decorative paper on the front and back (reddish ‘kievitsmarmer’), ribbed spine with decorative blindtooling, also some blind tooled decorations on the front and back, with a handwritten title on the spine and red sprinkled edges, 587-1242+[42] pp., the binding is worn especcially along the edges, tail and corners, boards exposed along the edges, damaged and stained endpapers in the front, titlepage also stained, the rest of the bookblock is mostly clean with only a few tears (for instance: page 622, 623 and 751 and some small damages to two pages in the index (in margins)). With an engraving on the titlepage, with lovely woodcut decorative initials and endpieces, with 9 folded engravings and 11 single page engravings. Some of the folded engravings are worn along the fold, two of those engravings are considerably damaged: ‘Maastricht door den Prins van Parma (…)’ and ‘De Moordt des Prinsen’. The damage to this last engraving seems deliberate since the head of the prince's attacker (Baltahsar Gerards) is cut so that you can lift it.
