Red leather-look hardcover with a bordeaux leather spine. The spine is divided in five shields of which the second shield shows the title. The page edges are gilded. The top and bottom of the spine are a bit worn and the insides show some foxing. Overall state good. 11,5 x 18 cm, [4] 1-432 pp. Frontispiece of La Fontaine, with tissue guard and many half- and full-page illustrations by J. Desandré and W. H. Freeman. The illustrations are engraved by several different artists.
