Etching after a drawing by Thomas Wijck. A traveller and his mule just ouside a city (Rome?) gate. From a series of landscapes and seescapes after Dutch masters of the 17th century, published under the supervision of Cornelis Ploos van Amstel. Possibly from Christiaan Josi’s series: ‘Collection d’imitations de dessins d’après les principaux maîtres hollandais et flamands, Londen, C.Josi, 1821’. The prints from this edition bear on the verso the arms of Cornelis Ploos van Amstel, the patron of this edition.
