Copy after Annibale Carracci’s popular engraving of the Madonna della Scodella: the Madonna, seated with the infant Christ on her lap, holds a bowl for the infant Baptist to drink from; in this copy the figure of St. Anne standing in the back, watching over the scene is missing. Signed above right: ‘Ani: Car in./ Nicolaus fran.ur Maffei / fecit’. The halos are left blanco, no hatchings.
