Haarlem, Loosjes, 1814. 3rd edition. 3 parts in 1. Decorated half leather. Good condition. 215+204+158 pag. Illustrated with 10 full page engravings. The curious author Adriaan van der Willigen (1766-1841) was an active advocate of the ‘Bataafsche Revolutie’ in the Netherlands. After he became financially independant in 1802, he could spend his full attention on studying, writing, the arts, science etc. He set out on a journey, that lasted multiple years, to France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Germany. When he returned to the Netherlands in 1805 he published various travel journals, amongst which this rare description of Paris. The first edition was banned and confiscated by the French authorities in 1811. The book is very witty and modern in its cultural-antropological view.B2302.
