Augustus III of Poland (1696-1763) was King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1733 to 1763, while also serving as Elector of Saxony. He gained the Polish throne with the support of Austria and Russia after the War of the Polish Succession. His reign was marked by political instability and growing foreign influence over Poland. Augustus focused more on art, culture, and court life than on governing, leaving much of the administration to his ministers. Although he was an important patron of the arts, his rule is often associated with the weakening of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
