Renier Chalon (1802-1889) was a numismatist, collector and photographer. Here both sides of a memorial medal are shown, one side with an en profil portrait of Chalon, the other giving information (about the 39th anniversary of the Société Royale de Numismatique de Belgique). The plate is numbered: 23.
Engraving on wove paper, sheet size 158 x 232 mm., image size 65 x 117 mm. Engraved by Leon Dardel after the medal issued by the Société Royale de Numismatique de Belgique, 1880.
Léon Dardel (Paris 1814 – after 1892) was a French painter and engraver (illustrator). Very little is known about his life, except he was born as the son of a jeweller. Dardel was lauded by his contemporaries for his numismatic line drawings.
In excellent condition, but only the lower half of the sheet, which originally contained two engravings.
