Incomplete without titlepage, so we have no information about the title, place, printer or date of publication. It concerns a conversation between B. Endres and P. Eugenius, printed in German in a Gothic font. Based on the content we suspect the text is a German translation of a text written by Giuseppe Passi (1569-1620). He was part of the 17th century misogynistic controversy and published several texts in Italian on the subject. One of his works was entitled: ‘Dei donneschi difetti’ which translates as ‘On Women's Faults’. Lucrezia Marinella (1571-1653), poet, writer, philosopher, polemicist, and women's rights advocate from the Republic of Venice, debated and renounced his views. She is best known for her polemical treatise ‘The Nobility and Excellence of Women and the Defects and Vices of Men (1600)’. Her works have been noted for bringing women into the philosophical and scientific community during the late Renaissance.
This text seems to be a German translation of one of Passi's texts where he offers a conversation between Brother Endres (a Benedictine monk) and Father Eugenius (a Jezuite) discussing their view on women. Though unfortunately incomplete, the subject is still relevant today. We do not support this misogynistic view. We offer this text for its historical value.
