Beschrijving
A single seated man underneath a large tree. To the right a stream with a fallen log extending into it.
Etching on wove paper, sheet size 360 x 264 mm., platemark 287 x 213 mm., made by Franz Rechberger (Vienna 1771-1841 Gutenstein), signed and dated 1798 in the plate, additionally signed in pencil lower right. Rechberger was a curator at the Albertina in Vienna, and a stilistic follower of Ruysdael and Van Everdingen.
In very good condition, with very faint discolouration from previous framing/matting. With an unidentified (not in Lugt) collector's mark stamped on the verso: ‘([…]broeke’.
