Ernst Wilhelm Arnoldi (1778-1841) was a German merchant and industrial entrepreneur from Gotha. He is best known as a pioneer of the German insurance system. In 1827 he helped establish one of Germanys first life insurance institutions, the Gotha life insurance bank, based on mutual risk-sharing.
He was also active in trade, early industry, and supported economic reforms such as the German customs union and railway development.
