Carel Asser (1843-1898) was a Dutch jurist, judge, and professor of civil law at Leiden University. He is best known for his influential Guide to the Study of Dutch Civil Law (Handleiding tot de beoefening van het Nederlands Burgerlijk Recht), which became a foundational work in Dutch legal scholarship. His legacy continues through the renowned Asser Series, a leading collection of legal publications in the Netherlands.
